Di Sulmona Confetti business has its roots in the centuries-old tradition of sugared almonds produced here since the second half of the 15th century. The Sulmona leadership in this field is worldwide known: some of the most important Italian companies have been here for centuries using qualified experts, consolidated technologies, quality sales network and different production sites.
The aim is therefore making this product better known, protecting the environment and peopleÊs health at the same time. Indeed, the strict selection of raw material and high-tech systems allow to get an excellent quality production.
According to some legends, the sugared almond production in this area dates back to the Roman conquest of Valle Peligna (1st century b.C.).
A reliable source shows that a small handcraft workshop lay in the Santa Chiara cloister and some nuns produced it.
In the 20th century, the confetto from Sulmona has had a great economic development and many factories were built in that period (some in the 19th century).
There are some different kinds of sugared almonds from Sulmona; the most distinctive are flower-bunch, daisy or poppy shaped. Each confetto of each bunch has its own flavour: chocolate, caramel, apple or orange.
